Michael Thurber: Story of the Bass

I am sharing an incredible video, “Story of the Bass,” presented by Michael Thurber of cdza, a group that creates musical video experiments. Enjoy this performance/history lesson about the world’s greatest instrument (so says The Funky Adjunct.)

As I recently picked up the bass guitar, I really like this video. A little disappointed to see that Cliff Burton didn’t get a nod, as he was doing some really crazy things with the bass in the early ’80s that this video mentioned came about in the 90’s. He was certainly every bit as influential to metal bass as Flea is to funk-pop styles.

    Thank you for sharing.

Cliff Burton’s death on the road sadly mirrors those of Buddy Holly and Stevie Ray Vaughan. “(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth” is a bass milestone. Today, Robert Trujillo is filling big shoes as Metallica’s bassist.
